From Then to Now

LoDo, short for Lower Downtown, holds the title of Denver's oldest neighborhood. LoDo was redeveloped in part by former governor John Hickenlooper, who transformed it into a vibrant hub for young professionals seeking an urban lifestyle.

Neighborhood Makeup:

LoDo's demographic makeup is a blend of young professionals, creatives, and people looking for urban living. Its energy and youthful spirit make it an attractive destination for those seeking an active community.

Transportation and Accessibility:

With its proximity to Union Station, LoDo provides easy access to Denver's light rail and bus systems. The neighborhood's walkability is excellent, with bike lanes and sidewalks connecting residents to nearby attractions and downtown offices.

Local Amenities:

LoDo is a haven for foodies, boasting a wide array of restaurants, from trendy eateries to cozy cafes. One of Denver’s premier food halls, Milk Market, is located in LoDo; along with its associated retail market, the Free Market. Just wrapped up last year, McGregor Square is a great place to spend summer evenings watching sporting events on the big screen TV and eating some great food. Last but not least, you can hang out on the Rooftop bar at the Coors Field – a staple of Denver summer.

Dining and Nightlife:

LoDo's dining scene is a melting pot of flavors, offering everything from modern American cuisine to international delicacies. The neighborhood comes alive at night, with bars, breweries, and live music venues attracting both locals and visitors. Some of the best restaurants in LoDo are Avelina, Urban Farmer, and Opheila’s.

What’s It Like To Live in LoDo?

Living in LoDo is about as urban as you can get for Denver. Surrounded by skyscrapers, the main bar/night life area, and Denver’s famed Union Station, it doesn’t get much more city living than LoDo. It will be lively and loud. It will be convenient if you enjoy going out and trying new places. One of Denver’s best Whole Foods is a short walk or drive from LoDo, so it’s still a very livable neighborhood. If you’re looking for something low-key and quiet, LoDo is not the neighborhood for you.

Housing Options:

LoDo is one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods. Some of the buildings you’ll find were built in the 1800s. However, most of the residential spaces in the neighborhood are recently developed. In LoDo, you’ll find mostly condo buildings, apartment buildings, and a handful of townhomes. If you’re looking to buy, the median home value in LoDo as of 2023 is around $750k. These are typically going to be nicer units. If you want to be in the thick of things, LoDo is a great option.
